Looks good, limited use
We bought this gun to be used for offstage shots in a production of "The Play That Goes Wrong". The 7 week run of this show was held in a relatively small semi-professional theater, so anything stronger than .22 "acorn" crimp blanks were deemed too loud to use, even offstage. Off the two similar .22 cal starter pistols offered, there seemed to be no real distinction between them beyond wood grips provided on the model 1000 that we did NOT buy since the gun would never be seen. It is possible that the overall quality of the 1000 may be higher than this, the 900, but there was no way to know this from the listing on the site. PROS: the gun looks good and has a fully machined cylinder, unlike some cheaper models. (However, there is no easy outlet for the firing gasses as the barrel is completely blocked at the cylinder, so the sound is somewhat diminished, and the frame becomes quite dirty from firing.) That said, the low price on this model was a selling point, as it was never going to be seen by the audience. CONS: The gun is machined -- and therefore, operates -- to rather loose tolerances, and so is not quite as reliable to me, as the armorer for the show, as I would have liked. In fact, after a week of performances, the gun failed to fire 3 shots in succession, misfiring between each one. Not a terrible problem, as the "clicks" between firings were not heard by the audience, but it affected the timing of the shots. I was forced to take the gun out of service for the rest of the run. It was held as an emergency backup to the more reliable weapon that replaced it. NOTE: the misfirings MAY -- I repeat, MAY -- have been due to the amazingly heavy buildup of debris in the chambers from the .22 blanks we were using at the time. The gun was only scheduled to be cleaned and oiled once a week during the run of the show. (With known "dirty" or black powder blanks I usually recommend cleaning after every performance.) It is POSSIBLE that this debris prevented the little "acorn" crimps from seating completely in some of the chambers, resulting in the misfires. We have not had enough experience with this gun to know whether that is the case. WE changed out the brand of blanks, but again, the loose tolerances during manufacture of the weapon may have allowed this condition to occur. Tighter tolerances might have jammed the cylinder rotation, indicating an improper seating. SUMMARY: You get what you pay for. This gun looks good as a prop, is relatively safe to fire, and CAN fire blanks if necessary. Probably fine for starting outdoor competitions, etc. Clean it after every use to be confident in its operation during extended use.

Great for starting my dogs on quail and getting them used to a gun going off without looking to see where the shot came from.

It does shoot but very cheaply made. 29 bucks, I got what I payed for. Bought it to train a dog with. Just fine for that.
